We all have hang-ups left over from our childhood, hot buttons that set us off and we’re once again 5 years old, 10 years old, teenagers.
Here’s some instant therapy.
Someone hurts your feelings, pisses you off, makes you crazy.
I say take a breath.
A moment of silence to ponder what just happened. Look at the offender and wonder what made them say or do that nasty, uninvited thing. Believe me when I tell you: it is their problem. They have insecurities, inadequacies, deep-seated leftover problems from THEIR childhood.
IT’S NOT YOU!
We all have a tendency to take things personally – that’s natural. When we allow others to make us feel small, unimportant, inadequate, we give them power they don’t deserve.
It’s difficult to do but so worthwhile to take that moment to evaluate each situation. Take back your power. You’re nobody’s rug to walk on or target for lashing out. This is not a competition. They have their value in this life and you have yours. Rising above small-mindedness and pettiness takes away a lot of pain and makes us the best we can be.
My gift to you is to remind you that your gift is of immense value.
