Musical Whittling: COSMO President, Steve Scott, shares thoughts on 2011, being thankful and moving forward.

Where did this year go?

Here we are entering the Holiday Season, a time for thanks, gift-giving, love-sharing and re-assessing the year past. Here at COSMO it’s all about your wonderful music.

Be thankful for your talent, your musical skills and accomplishments. Enjoy your craft and special gifts, celebrate your muse that drives your ability to musically communicate to others what you feel and interpret inside.

As for new resolutions, just rededicate your passion; continue to enjoy what you create and what you perform. Consider your life blessed by music and be joyful in your opportunities to participate in such a positive and satisfying profession.

For some reason I found myself thinking about some of this year’s music highs: I had a chance to participate in a couple of music conferences over the year, where, in presenting various panels and seminars, I met some really terrific new friends.

I must say that whenever I get to the many music industry events it’s great renewing old acquaintances and getting life updates on friends, some of whom I have known for quite a long while.

And of all things, just tonight I came across a television music program that made such a memorable impression: the PBS presentation of the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables; what a rare treat.

I watched the whole 4 hours. Loved it.

I  got to enjoy some opera this past year and a special surprise for my recent birthday (Oct. 22)      Our friend Lis Howard is a consummate pro and we  don’t get to hear her perform often enough.

We had a kick-ass good time catching our friends, the Doo Wah Riders  – website at  http://www.doowahriders.com/fr_home.cfm.

The group was performing at the Reagan Library, and we had a chance, although somewhat limited this year, to attend several artist showcases and release parties.

As many of you know, this past year has been mostly about my getting well. Many of our activities have taken second seat to my head and neck cancer treatments, which have involved a six-day per week schedule of various protocols and treatments that are just now completed and awaiting results.

Music is one of the things that has made this all bearable, providing some enjoyment and respite, so any of you who have seen us at events or at your performances or such, please know that you all contributed to keeping my mind on happy things. Through it all I have kept positive and thankful and grateful to all my music friends who I know have been pulling for me and among you are a few music angels who have also been pulling strings—bless y’all (some of you are in Nashville)

To all of you who click on to COSMO, please accept my invitation to have a very blessed Season of Celebration and Thanks.

Happy Holidays 2011 Steve & Judy
