Review of live performance:

Staged in a very comfortable courtyard of the Thousand Oaks Library, on a beautiful Southern California evening, Gedina Jean and her Trio provided an engaging “salon” performance for this crowd of series followers, treating them to some great classic Blues (that’s “blues” with a capital “B”).

Gedina, a rising star now recording her next release, is already a formidable talent. She came to the blues early in her formative years when, at age 14, she heard B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone.”  Her slightly gravelly vocals are made for the blues and her delivery is authentic and heart-felt. We, the audience, know she is really into the performance, which allows us to share the experience.

Her trio sides are consummate musicians with impressive credits that mark years of touring and recording with some of the greats in blues, jazz and pop genres. Kavooras, known internationally for his outstanding slide guitar work, has both recorded and sat in with literally hundreds of the great artists and bands of the American blues scene, and Parlapiano has played, toured and acted as music director with artists such as Joan Baez, Rod Stewart, Lowen & Navarro, Tracy Chapman, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Dave Koz and Jon Bon Jovi.

The point must be made that Kavooras and Parlapiano are on the Gedina Jean CD Album along with several other well known players, all of which lifts this recording to a play- worthy high level of enjoyment.

The library courtyard while close and friendly, is not a “stage.”  I am looking forward to seeing Gedina Jean in a concert setting with room to see her performance dynamics that only a “produced” show can deliver. She has a great look, terrific voice and engaging personality; this star should be a prominent part of the music firmament.
